Maximizing the Metabolism

Went to a mini seminar tonight for total health. Thought I would share some little tips I picked up. Each pound of muscle burns 35-50 calories a day. As we get older and lose muscle mass we begin to pack on pounds. In order to fight back and take responsibility you must first fuel the body, and then do resistance training 2 to 3 week with reps of 15. Full body circuit training is also a must.

Are your diets making you fat? Eating less than what your body needs sets off an alarm and shuts down the metabolism by an average of 15% OUCH! Low calories makes you lose muscle. Thyroid tells body to store fat. You become malnourished. Not a healthy environment for your body. Healthy calories 20-30% from fat, 50-60 from Carbs, 20-30% Protein.

Eating and Drinking don't starve yourself, make sure you getting protein, drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. When the body is dehydrated it slows down the fat-burning process. Water flushes toxins and helps maintain muscle mass. Eating breakfast increases metabolic rate by 5%. Build your fire in the morning and stoke the burning fire every 2-3 hours so that when you put your lunch (log) on the fire it is ready to burn and the same goes for your dinner (log).

And the last tip and this one can be a bummer for some people. Alcohol increases appetite, decreases testosterone for 24 hours, decreases fat burning by 73% YIKES! Testosterone burns fat. I sure would be limiting the alcohol if weight loss is what your after.

Muscle is your friend so exercise. Have breakfast every day that burns on an average around 700 calories a week. YEAH. Make a healthy choice for breakfast not fruity pebbles please.
